Hi 10080P,
Sep 30, 2019 Windows 8 has a feature called Windows Defender which is the same as Microsoft Security Essentials but you do not need to download it as it is built in. Microsoft Security Essentials is a plain solution which is better than nothing but in general is significantly outperformed by any of the commercial antivirus solutions reviewed on this website. Jun 08, 2019 Step 1: Find the Norton AntiVirus app. For any apps you don’t want or need, you can remove them to save a bit of space on your PC. To get to the app, click on the Start Button. Next, find the app you wish to remove. Step 2: Removing Norton AntiVirus from Windows Store. Right click on the app and click Uninstall.
Before you ran the removal tool, Windows Defender was there, with its
buttons greyed out. After you ran the tool, Windows Defender is completely
missing? ????
I don't know how this would happen, but there are several things that you
should check.
Click 'start' and type 'services'. Select 'Run as administrator'.
On the Services screen, scroll down to 'Security Center'. If this service is
not running, try to start it. Double click the service to see its controls.
If they are not greyed out, set the Startup Type to Automatic (delayed
start), Click 'Start' and then 'OK'. If the service is now running, go back
to Windows Defender and determine its status.
If you were unable to start the service, there is a Registry key that you
may need to modify, in order to enable the process.
The Registry is a sensitive area of your PC, but you should have no problem
if you follow these instructions.
Click 'start' and type 'regedit'. Select 'Run as Administrator.
On the Registry Editor screen, navigate through this branch:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServices and click
SecurityHealthService. In the right pane find the Key labeled 'Start'.
Modify the DWord value for this key from 4 to 3. Right click 'Start' and
select 'Modify'. Type 3 and click OK.
It is best to back out of the Registry by retracing the steps you used to enter.
This keeps your Registry from becoming cluttered.
When you reach HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, click 'File' and then 'Exit'.
RESTART your PC.
Go to the 'Services' screen, and try to start the 'Security Center' service
again, as described above.
Windows Defender
Restart your PC.
Go to Windows Defender and determine its status.
